CARRÉ D'AS
Portraits musicaux de Couperin,
Forqueray, Marais et Rameau
Les Timbres
Yoko Kawakubo · Myriam Rignol · Julien Wolfs

Four eminent figures — François Couperin, Antoine Forqueray, Marin Marais and Jean-Philippe Rameau — gather here like the four aces in an exceptional deck of cards. Through a gallery of musical portraits, Myriam Rignol, Yoko Kawakubo and Julien Wolfs reveal the many facets of these geniuses. From Couperin’s refined modesty to Forqueray’s tempestuous passion, from Marais’s angelic viola da gamba to Rameau’s radiant genius, each piece sketches a character, a silhouette, a whole life.

The ensemble Les Timbres gracefully interprets the composers’ intimate self-portraits, to which their peers respond with reciprocal tributes. This quartet of masters thus regains a vibrant modernity, offering a palette of feelings as striking as it is universal.

Recorded from June 27th to 29th 2025 at the church in Pompierre-sur-Doubs.
