Since 2009, Château de Versailles Spectacles has offered its audiences unique programmes. Each season, the curtain rises on around a hundred shows, masterpieces performed by the greatest names on the current scene, but also newly discovered young artists and new or rarely heard repertoires, specifically in 17th and 18th century music, in the setting of the Royal Opera House, which celebrated its 250th anniversary in 2020, but also in the recently renovated Royal Chapel, or in the heart of the famous Hall of Mirrors.
More than ever, it is essential to offer the public a tool that allows audiences from all backgrounds to view and hear the productions of the Royal Opera of Versailles. This is why we have created our digital streaming and downloading platform live-operaversailles.fr, which offers high-definition content filmed and recorded in Versailles. With more than a hundred references already in stock, and a new one added every month, the extensive selection will increase continuously. The platform will start with 20 videos when it opens, and new ones will be added regularly.
It also allows the exclusive presentation of some of the video recordings made at Château de Versailles, and from June onwards it will host the downloading platform for the audio files of the CDs in our collection, which are deliberately not available on mainstream platforms, where compensation is negligible.
When it launches in May 2021, the live-operaversailles.fr platform will offer the latest video recordings of the Château de Versailles Spectacles label: Charpentier's David and Jonathas, which offers the very first complete staging in the Royal Chapel of Versailles. This performance is sublimated by the sumptuous sets by Antoine Fontaine and the costumes by Christian Lacroix. A true immersion in Venetian baroque opera is also revealed through Cavalli's Egisto, carried by a dream cast. Discover the new production of Lully's opera Atys, in which Leonardo García Alarcón's musical ardour is combined with Angelin Preljocaj's choreographic splendour.
For Mozart lovers, The Magic Flute is available in French, conducted by Hervé Niquet. It includes the Royal Opera's first production, Grétry's Richard the Lionheart, and John Corigliano's Ghosts of Versailles, conducted by Joseph Colaneri with the Royal Opera Orchestra. Le Coucher du Roi in the Grands Appartements, Berlioz's Benvenuto Cellini with John Eliot Gardiner, The Royal Rite of Louis XIV conducted by Sébastien Daucé, Handel's Coronation of George II with The King's Consort, Berlioz's Symphonie Fantastique with John Eliot Gardiner and Berlioz's La Damnation de Faust with François-Xavier Roth in the original historical setting designed for the Royal Opera House in 1837 complete this collection of exceptional works. Finally, lovers of sacred music can enjoy Handel's Messiah with Hervé Niquet, Monteverdi's Vespers of the Virgin with Raphaël Pichon or Praetorius's Christmas Mass with Paul McCreesh at the Chapelle Royale.
Discover also the audio catalogue of the Château de Versailles Spectacles label. This spring, it has been enriched with The Crown, the majestic Coronation Anthems of King Charles III, including the masterpieces of Purcell and Handel: God Save the King! Other exceptional works include Lully's Cadmus et Hermione by Vincent Dumestre; Secrets de Roy, viola da gamba pieces by Couperin by Mathilde Vialle; Couperin's Leçons de Ténèbres by Stéphane Fuget and the Royal Opera Orchestra with Florie Valiquette and Sophie Junker; Pergolesi's Stabat Mater for two castrati; Rameau's Indes Galantes by Valentin Tournet; Lully's George Dandin by Gaétan Jarry; Rameau's Les Boréades by Vaklav Luks and many more...
