A musical tragedy in a prologue and five acts, with a libretto by Hilaire-Bernard Requeleyne, inspired by Tasso's La Gerusalemme liberata, first performed in Fontainebleau in 1704.
Marie Lys · Véronique Gens · Gwendoline Blondeel · Cyrille Dubois · Nicholas Scott · Fabien Hyon · Victor Sicard · David Witczak
Chœur de Chambre de Namur
Cappella Mediterranea
Leonardo García-Alarcón, conductor
The sorceress Armide, infatuated with the valiant knight Roland, but desperate for Roland to return her love, tries at all costs to lure him into her arms. At the same time, the courageous Herminie tries to protect Tancrède, Roland's companion, from the dangers that threaten him. Published in 1704, Suite d'Armide ou Jérusalem délivrée is as rare as it is unique : in the handwriting of the Regent Philippe d'Orléans, its composition testifies to a certain talent and a refined ear. Leonardo García-Alarcón and Cappella Méditerránea brilliantly restore the little-known genius of the sovereign.
Recorded from June 27th to 30th 2023 at the Château de Versailles.
